User interface (english)

Beitrag von Thijs »

1. Terminology
Alternatives:
'test point' -> 'sample'
'scan exact' -> 'interval' (scan is confusing with PLC-scan-cycle)

2. Rename Signal window
Is it possible to use <F2> to rename a Signal window?
General: is it possible to improve the Analyzer to Windows conventions?
E.g. usage of <Ctrl>+<C> (copy), <Ctrl>+<V> (paste).

3. Start recording > Scan exact recording > Settings
What means 'OP protocol' contrary to 'PG protocol'?

4. Menu > Window
A list of open windows is missing.

5. Signal window
Most datalog-applications use one window (x- and y-axis) with all signals together, with one or two y-axis, and colors to distinguish the signals.
Advantages:
- comparing signals is much easier
- higher vertical resolution possible
- using (display-)offset could give the same result as WinPLC-Analyzer nowadays.
Disadvantage:
- colors have to be determined (is usually done automatic)
Are there plans to modify this?

1. Terminology
Yes, that would be a better translation.
We will not change it now. But you can edit in your copy the file English.dat file. See in folder __SYSTEM\Sprachen within the Analyzer-folder.

2. Rename Signal window
You can rename a signal window via the context menu.
We will discuss the other things.

3. Start recording > Scan exact recording > Settings
The PLC supports two protocol types: "OP-protocol" and "PG protocol"
In normal case you should use "OP-protocol", because it's faster.

4. Menu > Window
"A list of open windows is missing." Yes we will add this.

5. Signal window
Yes this view is in our ToDo List.

Is it possible to add the following:
- Duplicate a signal to a signal window.
- Possibility to modify the address of a DB (not just the address within the DB; why is this separated?)
Often it is more convenient to modify the properties of a (copy of an) existing signal (address, symbol) than to edit everything from zero.
This will save me a lot of effort; thanks in advance.

Hello,

yes we can change this in the next version:

1. Duplicate a signal (eg copy Signal MB10 to MB11)
2. Change the address of a signal of a DB (DB-No and address)

Last week I had to explain the functioning of WinPLC-Analyzer (WPA) to a collegue. We experienced several problems in the user interface during testing with a test-PLC.
We use WPA in combination with Step7, with 'heterogenous' variables (addresses, types, mostly in DB's).

8. Editing the Signal Window
a. This costs too much time, especially when using addresses in DB's. With heterogenous variables the function 'Create several operands' is useless.
The address DBn.DBWm should not be separated into two fields to make pasting a single address more convenient.
Filling a table (pasting or importing text, a csv- or tab-separated-file) with addresses and formats), as further development of the Maintain signals window, should be much convenient.
Simple copy/paste from Step7 - Variable table should be perfect.
b. Function of Delete Signal/content is not clear.
The content (data) of all signals is easily lost. Consistent naming 'signal' vs. 'all signals' and 'signal with content' or just 'signal-content' lacks.

9. Lock of functions
Several times functions where locked. Successive de-selecting and re-selecting or exiting and re-entering an object/function helped!?
Thoroughly testing of WPA (this seems to lack) will show you what I mean.

10. Lost project file
By an unknown reason we lost the project-file of our test-project: <project>.SA7.
This resulted in corrupt behaviour of the Project(-management) window. No messages occured.
Deleting the whole project 'under water' (with Windows Explorer) was the only solution.

11. Displaying actual values
During logging of data the actual values seems to be incorrect at some moments, seems to 'jump'. The logged data seems correct.

12. Scaling (time-axis)
The behaviour is strange (with little samples?). Moving the pointer to the left (most) increases the Current scaling [ms/pix]. It seems to be set to a default value.

13. Signal properties window
The order of fields (using <Tab>) has been mixed: Unit - Comment - Symbol.

General
It is hard for me to find out how the WPA-developpers and -testers work with this program. What data are you logging: homogenious, static signal windows?
For me its clear: the datalogging itself is OK but the way leading to the result is too long.
It should be the convenient answer to the missing function of Step7!
